War Crimes Tribunal-2 Mujahid's case verdict today

The Dhaka Times Desk The verdict in the case against Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War will be announced on Wednesday.

Yesterday, Tuesday, War Crimes Tribunal-2 decided this day to announce the verdict.

Today's verdict will be the fourth verdict of War Crimes Tribunal-II headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan and composed of Justice Mojibur Rahman Mia and Justice Shahinur Islam.

Since the formation of the War Crimes Tribunal on 25 March 2010 to try crimes against humanity, five verdicts have been announced so far. Jamaat-e-Islami expelled fugitive Abul Kalam Azad alias Bachchu Razakar, Naib Ameer Delawar Hossain Saeedi and Assistant Secretary General Mohammad Kamaruzzaman have been sentenced to death in the verdict. And Jamaat's former Amir Professor Ghulam Azam has been sentenced to 90 years and Assistant Secretary General Quader Mollah has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Currently, five more people are on trial in two tribunals.

It is to be noted that after the trial process of the case on June 5, the tribunal kept the verdict pending (CAV). Mujahid has 7 charges of crimes against humanity including killing of intellectuals.
