E-Passport: What you need to know

Three colors of passport

Bangladesh basically has three color passports. These 3 colors are used as symbols to indicate different types and uses.

Director of Bangladesh Immigration and Passport Department Mohammad Abu Saeed said in this regard, there were three types of passports at first. Ordinary or general passport, special or special passport and diplomatic or diplomatic passport which is called.

Special passport is also known as Indian passport as it is issued only for visiting India. Until 2010, Bangladeshi ordinary passports were green, diplomatic passports were red. Moreover, the color of Indian passport is also red. However, it was colored slightly differently than diplomatic passports. Until 2010, all passports in Bangladesh were handwritten passports. However, in 2010, according to the instructions of the International Civil Aviation Organization ICAO, Machine Readable Passport or MRP was introduced.

Which passport applies to whom?

The color of passports of different countries of the world is different. However, the country that does not issue passports of any color, must obtain a passport color and design clearance from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

But in general, these four colors red, blue, green and black are different in the world.

In Bangladesh generally green color passports are in operation for all, the country has two more color i.e. blue and red passports in operation.

For whom are passports of which color used?

green passport

Director of Immigration and Passport Department Saeed said in this regard, green passport is applicable to all citizens of Bangladesh, both by birth and marriage. Passports of this color require a visa from the respective country to travel abroad.

Blue passport

The blue colored passport is called the official passport. This official passport is used when an official or employee travels outside the country for government work. Approval of the concerned government office or Government Order (GO) is required for this passport. Blue passport holders can travel visa-free to at least 27 countries.

red passport

Red passport is called diplomatic or diplomatic passport. The Head of State, Prime Minister, Cabinet member, Member of Parliament and their spouses i.e. husband or wife will get this passport.

Moreover, High Court Judges, Vice-Chancellors of Public Universities, Heads of Public Service Commissions, Secretaries of Ministries and officials of Bangladeshi missions abroad get red passports. Red passport holders do not require a visa to travel abroad. They get an on-arrival visa after landing in the respective country.
