The Trump administration is keen to bring more Arab countries under the US-Israel accord ahead of the US presidential election in November.

Saudi King Salman has always supported Palestine. In addition to providing billions of dollars in financial aid to the Palestinians for decades, the Saudi king has also developed personal relationships with most of their leaders.

The Saudi prince is willing to build relations with Israel despite the king's disapproval. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wants to build a strong alliance against Iran and overcome conflict with Israel for trade and investment.

In an opinion published in a Saudi-owned newspaper, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, an important member of the Saudi royal family, said that, "in order to normalize Israel's relations with Saudi Arabia, Palestine must be declared a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital."

He also said, 'Saudi Arabia has also set a price for the establishment of final peace between Israel and the Arab countries. That is to follow the initiative of the late King Abdullah to establish a sovereign Palestinian state by declaring Jerusalem as its capital.'
