The Dhaka Times Desk Middle Eastern countries United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have signed an agreement to normalize relations with Israel. The United States brokered the deal. But the dispute between the Saudi king and Yuvraj came to light on the issue of Israel!
Rumors are going around the world - Saudi Arabia is also going to follow the path of Emirates and Bahrain. They will also agree to normalize relations with Israel. Meanwhile, the disagreement between Saudi King Salman and his son Prince Mohammed bin Salman on this issue has come to light.
In a Wall Street Journal report, analysts said that the Saudi king refused to agree, although the prince appeared interested in formally normalizing relations with Israel.
The 84-year-old Saudi king was stunned after President Trump's announcement of a reconciliation agreement between Israel and the Emirates on August 13.
Emirates and Bahrain have already signed an official agreement with Israel in the presence of Donald Trump at the White House in the United States.
US President Donald Trump hailed the historic agreement as a 'new sunrise in the Middle East'. On the other hand, this agreement of the Arabs has been called a 'betrayal' by the angry Palestinians.
The Trump administration is keen to bring more Arab countries under the US-Israel accord ahead of the US presidential election in November.
The US President said that he himself believes that Saudi Arabia is on the verge of establishing formal diplomatic relations with Tel Aviv. The country will do that at the 'right time'.
Saudi King Salman has always supported Palestine. In addition to providing billions of dollars in financial aid to the Palestinians for decades, the Saudi king has also developed personal relationships with most of their leaders.
The Saudi prince is willing to build relations with Israel despite the king's disapproval. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman wants to build a strong alliance against Iran and overcome conflict with Israel for trade and investment.
In an opinion published in a Saudi-owned newspaper, Prince Turki Al-Faisal, an important member of the Saudi royal family, said that, "in order to normalize Israel's relations with Saudi Arabia, Palestine must be declared a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital."
He also said, 'Saudi Arabia has also set a price for the establishment of final peace between Israel and the Arab countries. That is to follow the initiative of the late King Abdullah to establish a sovereign Palestinian state by declaring Jerusalem as its capital.'
However, the agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia has come a long way, commented Ewel Guzansky, former director of the 'Iran and Gulf Desk' at Israel's National Security Council.
He said, 'The deal has come a long way. But Israel will have to wait for that. When and at what price the agreement will be made, Saudi Arabia is not discussing with Israel, but mainly with the White House.
After President Donald Trump came to power in 2017, King Salman sent him a message saying he believed in Israel's right to exist as well as the Palestinians' right to a state of their own.
On a smartphone in September, King Salman reiterated to President Trump his desire to resolve the Palestinian issue.
Two advisers close to the prince said that he wants to reach an agreement with Israel. But the prince also knows that this is almost impossible to do as long as the king is alive.
It should be noted that since taking charge of the Saudi government in 2017, Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been showing unusual interest in Israel regarding security and trade.
