Be careful with deepfake pornography

The Dhaka Times Desk Currently, deepfake pornography has reached such a stage that experts have warned that deepfake pornography will become deadly if it is not stopped now.

Deepfake pornography is the misuse of technology to perfectly create a star or person's face with a person in a pornographic image or video. By seeing such fake pictures or videos, anyone will be fooled in general, i.e. the face of the victim will not think that the person in the video is actually not him!

Professor Clare McGlynn, an expert on the subject, said it has become very easy these days for a criminal to harass a woman in a virtual environment. While investigating, it is seen that the incidents of harassment related to Deepfakes are increasing day by day. Many times this happens through close people.

A female victim reported that she was the victim of a breach of personal privacy by a man she had a trusted relationship with 10 years ago. She also said, “A few days after our breakup, I got some messages from that ex-boyfriend. In the message he threatens that he has some offensive pictures of me!” A few months after this incident I then received an e-mail from a porn site moderator.

It says that, are you sure that you want to give these pictures to the Internet yourself? That's when I realized that it was actually my ex-boyfriend's work. He gives the pictures on porn site, he even mentions my real name there. Then the porn site contacted me about it. Then the matter was reported to the police. The photos were seized by the police.

A writer named Helen Mort is also a victim of Deepfake. A couple of years ago, he came across a fake picture of her on a porn site, which was published there in 2017.

Deepfake expert Henry Azder said that deepfake trend started in 2017. The kind of software that this is done with, because they are open source or open, anyone can easily use them to make fake videos!
