The Dhaka Times Desk The handsets of customers currently using the mobile network will be automatically registered in BTRC's system on June 30. That is why these sets are not closing from July 1. This information is provided by BTRC.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has requested everyone not to be confused in this matter.
It is known that BTRC was supposed to start detecting illegal mobile phone sets from July 1. However, according to some news media, illegal mobile phones will be stopped from that day. In this context, the company gave this information.
BTRC Commissioner AKM Shahiduzzaman told the media that there is currently a demand of around 15 crore handsets in Bangladesh. 40 percent of which entered the market illegally or were brought from abroad. We are trying to bring this matter under control.
He also said that basically this is being done to maintain law and order. Opportunity will be given to validate. For that, the message will go to everyone. No one's mobile phone set will be switched off. There will be no disruption in the communication system. Handset purchased from abroad can be registered by submitting valid documents to BTRC.
BTRC sources said that these mobile sets illegally entered in Bangladesh market will be identified. That is why the National Equipment Identity Registrar (NEIR) system is being used by the Bangladesh Telecommunication Authority. BTRC will use this type of technology for the first time in the country. However, the company has asked mobile customers not to panic.
The system says that whenever a SIM card is inserted into a handset, it will send a signal to the BTRC database, where IMEI numbers of authorized handsets are stored. The SIM card will be activated only if the IMEI of the handset matches the database.
In this regard, AKM Shahiduzzaman also said that if no handset is found in the BTRC database after entering the active SIM card mobile, then BTRC will keep the IMEI of that handset in the white list for seven days and give the user time to register using the legal documents of import or purchase of the phone. If a user wants to sell his handset, he has to register the handset through the specified website and re-register it in the database under the new username.
Note that there is a demand of about 3 crore mobile handsets in Bangladesh every year. Most of it is smuggled. Due to which the government is deprived of revenue of about 3 thousand crore rupees every year.
