The Taliban is opening 10 girls' schools on the initiative of Erdoğan

The Dhaka Times Desk After talks with the Taliban in Afghanistan, Türkiye opened 10 girls' schools in the country. Turkey took the step after talks with Taliban authorities on increasing women's education opportunities in Afghanistan.

At a cabinet meeting on Friday, Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu said 10 of the 14 girls' schools in Afghanistan under Turkey's state-funded Marif Foundation had been reopened. A total of 80 schools were being run in Afghanistan under this foundation.

Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu also said that he had a meeting with the Taliban delegation in Afghanistan. This team was led by Amir Khan Muttaki, the foreign minister of the interim government of Afghanistan. Recently, Türkiye has also provided relief assistance to more than 5 thousand families in Afghanistan.

It should be noted that after the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan on August 15, they banned secondary education for girls. The Taliban government came under criticism. However, the Taliban also claims that work is underway to open the school soon. Meanwhile, various international organizations, including the United Nations, have been calling on the Taliban government to create opportunities for girls to go to school.
