30 bank officials of Sylhet received training to ensure the use of climate and environment friendly investments

The Dhaka Times Desk GIZ Bangladesh has organized a training program on sustainable financing in Sylhet with the participation of 30 bank officials so that bank officials can play a more supportive role in the effective use of private sector climate and environment-friendly investments.

Bangladesh Bank's Sustainable Finance Department (SFD) and GIZ Bangladesh jointly organized this training program titled 'Sustainable Finance for Sustainability: Challenges and Opportunities' at Roseview Hotel, Sylhet. The training program on sustainable finance was organized in five out of the eight departments of the country in association with SFD through advanced coordination of the International Climate Finance (ICICF) project implemented by GIZ Bangladesh on behalf of the German Federal Government.

Later, an awareness raising program was organized at Roseview Hotel, Sylhet with more than 50 business leaders and entrepreneurs interested in sustainable finance and investment from the respective regions. In this initiative titled 'Sustainable Finance for Sustainability: Challenges and Opportunities for the Private Sector', bank officials and private sector participants participated in a detailed discussion with Bangladesh Bank officials on how they can easily pursue low-cost funding or fundraising approaches for sustainable businesses and initiatives. Khandkar Morshed Millat said in his speech, there is no alternative for sustainable investment in front of us. Sustainable investment targets for banks and financial institutions will increase in the coming years. He also conducted a training session on sustainable financial policies for the participants.

In the opening speech Dr. Ferdous stressed on the creation of additional climate finance opportunities from external sources due to the increasing impact of climate change on the country. Bangladesh's domestic resources are not sufficient to meet the growing demand for financing climate change mitigation. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the capacity of stakeholders to create opportunities for international financing.

Mohammad Mamunul Haque, executive director of Bangladesh Bank Sylhet office, attended as the chief guest and handed over the certificates to the participants of the training. He encouraged the bankers to make sustainable finance more familiar among the customers of Sylhet and highlighted the importance of organizing such training for the bankers of Sylhet in future.

Through the Improved Coordination of International Climate Finance (ICICF) project, GIZ works closely with the Government of Bangladesh to build capacity on climate finance mobilization and coordination. News bulletins.
