দেশটি নতুন করে সতর্কতা জারি করে জানিয়েছে যে, যারা এই মাসে ভিক্ষা করবে তাদের কঠোর শাস্তি দেওয়া হবে। গালফ নিউজের এক প্রতিবেদনে এই তথ্য জানানো হয়েছে।

এক প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাতের আইন অনুযায়ী ভিক্ষা বৃত্তি হলো শাস্তিযোগ্য অপরাধ। এই অপরাধ করলে ৩ মাসের কারাদণ্ড কিংবা সর্বোচ্চ ৫ হাজার দিরহাম অর্থদণ্ডে দণ্ডিত হবেন। যা বাংলাদেশী মুদ্রায় প্রায় দেড় লাখ টাকার সমান।

আমিরাত পাবলিক প্রসিকিউশন জোর দিয়ে জানিয়েছে যে, কোনোরূপ ভিক্ষা করা কঠোরভাবে নিষিদ্ধ। যারা ভিক্ষাবৃত্তির অপরাধে ধরা পড়বেন তাদের নিশ্চিত শাস্তির আওতায় আনা হবে।

পাবলিক প্রসিকিউশন আরও সতর্কতা দিয়ে জানিয়েছে যে, যদি কোনো সুস্থ ব্যক্তি ভিক্ষাবৃত্তি করেন, জীবিকার উপায় থাকা সত্ত্বেও ভিক্ষা করেন, আহত কিংবা প্রতিবন্ধী হওয়ার ভান করে দয়া পাওয়ার চেষ্টা করেন কিংবা তৃতীয় পক্ষকে সহায়তা করার প্রলোভন দেখিয়ে সাহায্য চাইতে গিয়ে ধরা পড়েন তাহলে তা প্রকৃত ভিক্ষুকদের শাস্তির চেয়েও কঠোর হবে।

উল্লেখ্য যে, এ সপ্তাহের শুরুতে ভিক্ষাবৃত্তির বিরুদ্ধে বার্ষিক অভিযান শুরু করেছে দুবাই পুলিশ। মূলত, রমজান মাসে ভিক্ষাবৃত্তি আসলে বেড়ে যাওয়ায় এই সময় আইনশৃঙ্খলা বাহিনী ভিক্ষার বিরুদ্ধে বেশি সক্রিয় থাকে।

দুবাই পুলিশ গত সপ্তাহে এক সংবাদ সম্মেলনে জানিয়েছে, গত রমজানেও তারা ৬০৪ জনকে গ্রেফতার করেছে। এদের মধ্যে ৩৮২ জনই ছিল ভিক্ষুক। ২২২ জন অবৈধ ব্যবসায়ী, যারা অনুমতি ছাড়াই রমজান মাসে ফুটপাত কিংবা রাস্তায় ব্যবসা করার চেষ্টা করেন।
