This watch was auctioned recently. The watch was expected to fetch $300,000 before the auction. According to a CNN report, in 2019, the watch came into the hands of Phillips, an auction house.
However, the price of the watch rose to 51 million US dollars in just 5 minutes of auction (spirited bidding) that day! The total price of the watch, including the buyer's premium fee, stands at around 6.2 million US dollars.
Thomas Perazzi, head of the Asia region of the watch division of the auction house Philips, told the media that he was thrilled with this landmark auction. The reason is that the watch is a record for sale at auction.
A Patek Philippe model (reference 96) has never sold for such a price before, the UK auction house said in a press release.
