The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) reported that Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, the Afghanistan crisis and the Sudanese civil war have increased the total number of refugees several times over.

It has been said that many of them are internally displaced in their own countries. A record number of people were displaced last year, UNHCR's latest annual report said on Wednesday. About 1.9 million people were forced to leave their country and home due to war-violence.
According to UNHCR's annual report Global Trends in Forced Displacement, 108.4 million people were displaced by the end of last year. Compared to 2021, this number is 1 crore 91 lakh more. The number of forcibly displaced people worldwide has risen to a record 11 million as millions of new refugees have joined the conflict in Ukraine and Sudan. Filippo Grandi, the head of the refugee agency, expressed concern. He said that violence among people is increasing day by day. Due to this, the number of displaced people is increasing. Millions of people are being displaced. The UN official blames the factors like war, oppression, discrimination, violence and climate change.
In a press conference in Geneva, he said, there is a report for which the whole world should stand on the table of complaints. The solution to this forced displacement is becoming so difficult that its solution is not even on the table for discussion. He further said that we live in a highly polarized world, where international tensions are distorting all humanitarian issues.
In the press briefing, he said, we are seeing an increase in laxity among countries in following the principles of the 1951 Refugee Convention, even among many countries that have signed that convention.
