Today Monday is the 2nd day of 84-hour strike called by 18 groups. 1 person was killed in Chittagong yesterday. Even today, processions and picketing have been held at various places. Last night, there were incidents of vandalism including burning of cars in different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka. Protests of hartal supporters took place in different places of the capital today. However, due to the tough stance of the law enforcement agencies, the strikers retreated.
Common vehicles including minibus, tempo, CNG, autorickshaws are plying in the capital like yesterday. However, no long-distance bus left. Markets in the capital are closed. However, office-court, bank-insurance work is going on normally. Various trains left from Kamalapur railway station in the morning as usual. Suvarna Express train of Dhaka-Chittagong route leaves at 8:30 am. Other trains also left from Kamalapur station almost on time.
7 people were burnt in the moving lagoon in front of Laxmibazar Victoria Park in the capital yesterday at 8:30 pm. Among them, the condition of one named Montu Lal (34) is critical. Among the injured, Kamal Hossain (35), Shri Mukta (25), Sapna Mondal (30), Sagar Dash (18), Mintu Dash (18), Sajeev (22) have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Among them, 95 percent of Montu Lal's body has been burnt, said Shankar Kumar Pal, the doctor on duty at DMEC. Besides, 65 parts of Swapna's body, 45 parts of Kalam, 35 parts of Sajeev and 25 parts of Sagar were burnt, he said.
It should be noted that 18 party alliances are observing the strike for the 3rd week with the demand of elections under a non-partisan government. Widespread violence is happening in these strikes. That is why the common people of the country are extremely worried about the strike. The common people of the country feel that due to the monogamous attitude of the government and the opposition, they have to pay the price today. It is the hope of the people that the new government will be established through a free, fair and impartial election with the participation of all parties, eliminating the complications that have arisen with the election through discussion.
