The Dhaka Times Desk Bangladesh Railway has launched online train ticket booking system. In this system, 10 percent of the total ticket can be deducted on the internet.
Inaugurating the 'e-ticketing' service at the Railway Bhawan on May 29, Railway Minister Obaidul Quader said, "Tickets can be purchased online from May 29. If this system is successful, the entire ticketing system will be gradually converted to e-ticketing.”
Referring to the fact that earlier 25 percent of the total tickets were given through mobile ticketing, the minister said that from now on 15 percent will be sold through mobile ticketing. The remaining 10 percent of tickets can be paid online through any Visa or Master Card (Debit or Credit) in the e-ticketing system.
Director General of Railways Abu Taher said that from Tuesday, about two thousand tickets to various destinations will be sold through e-ticketing. According to the rules, tickets should be purchased three days in advance through e-ticketing, Abu Taher said, maximum 4 tickets can be purchased against one card.
