A large mosque full of craftsmanship is the Istiklal Mosque in Indonesia

A large mosque full of craftsmanship is the Istiklal Mosque in Indonesia. This mosque is located in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the 5th largest mosque in the world. This mosque was built in 1978. The mosque has an area of 95,000 square meters and a capacity of 120,000 people. The main place of prayer i.e. the center of the mosque has a huge dome built on 12 circular pillars.

Apart from the big dome, the mosque has another smaller dome. There is another minaret. Its height is 90 meters. Islamic lectures, exhibitions, seminars, conferences and Islamic education system for women and children are organized separately in this mosque with four levels of balconies.

The other side of Istiklal Mosque

In the construction history of the mosque, "Istiklal" is an Arabic word which means freedom in Bengali. Since Indonesia got its independence in 1949, there was an initiative to build a national mosque called "Istiklal". The foundation of the mosque was laid in 1961 after fixing the design and other arrangements. The construction of the mosque was completed in 1978. It took 17 years from foundation to completion of the mosque.
