The Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay museum were closed to visitors as floodwaters rose about 18 feet above normal. Initiatives have been taken to safely move around two and a half lakh valuable artefacts.
According to media reports, the water level of Sin River has increased compared to last week due to continued torrential rains. The Meteorological Department said, this rain will continue for some more days. Only France and Germany were affected by the floods. Several areas of the country are already under water. Germany is ahead in terms of loss of life, although the severity of floods is higher in France. So far 2 people have died in France and 10 in Germany. Flooding is also spreading to other European countries.
Several areas in Romania, Belgium, Austria, Netherlands, Poland were also submerged in flood water. At least 2 people have died in floods in eastern Romania.
The French government is reeling from its first such unusual natural disaster in 35 years. President Francois Hollande called the recent floods "unusual". A flood warning has also been issued. He also promised to compensate the victims.
