The Dhaka Times Desk The main competition of smartphone operating system is mainly between the iOS developed by the tech giant Apple and the Android operating system developed by Google. But why is Android ahead of iOS?
Both these operating systems have different features and benefits. However, Android is ahead of iOS in terms of some features. Find out about some of the features that keep Android ahead:
Android's latest version Nougat and Apple's iOS 10 both operating systems have the feature of splitting the home screen into two to use different apps. But this feature of iOS is only applicable for iPad. The split screen feature is not yet available on the iPhone. On the other hand, Android Nougat facilitates the use of split screen on all devices from tablets to smartphones.
The notification bar has various features like torch, wifi, data access etc. These options can be turned on or off by just dragging once on Android smartphones.
A very useful feature of Android is called 'Dose'. This dose originally started as a marshmallow version. Under this feature, the smartphone helps in conserving the battery charge when it is idle and not in use. A standby smartphone can last a whole night with only 3 percent charge due to dosage usage.
Android operating system is very fast in launching another app to use one app. Double-tapping the multi-window button will bring up a list of all running apps on the screen. iOS lags behind in terms of speed.
Much like Doze, there is a 'data saver' feature. However, this feature will make the smartphone quite economical in terms of internet data consumption, not the battery. How an app can use data in the background can be controlled through data saver.
Google has provided virtual reality for Android Nougat. Using this virtual platform, it will be possible to play various VR games, watch virtual reality videos.
The latest version of Android includes more informative and expanded settings than before.
The Android operating system has the opportunity to use various apps from the Play Store on a temporary basis and in a certain range without downloading. iOS operating system does not have any such feature.
Apple's iOS 8 operating system was 4 GB in size. Although Apple has reduced that to 2 GB, it is still more than Android. Android OS updates are always around one gigabyte in size. On the other hand, the 'Seamless Update Feature' has been added to Android Nougat. Due to this feature, all new updates will continue to download in the background. Once the user restarts the phone, those updates will be installed.
