The Dhaka Times Desk The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, and Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen, who spoke on the phone, are upset about China!
Trump and Tsai Ing-wen spoke by phone on Friday local time. In 1979, the United States severed formal relations with Taiwan. Then, for the first time ever, a US president spoke to Taiwan's head of state.
According to international media sources, Trump's conversation with Taiwan's president may anger China. The reason is that China always considers Taiwan a separate province.
Sources in Trump's office said that they discussed strengthening economic, political and security ties in the phone conversation.
In a tweet about the phone conversation, Trump said, "Sai called him to congratulate him on winning the presidential election."
However, earlier in another tweet, Trump said, 'The United States sells billions of dollars worth of military equipment to Taiwan. But I didn't get any congratulatory messages from the country, quite a surprise!'
Trump's supporters said that Donald Trump had congratulated Sai on his victory in the election in January this year.
The Office of the President of the United States has been told by the White House that there will be no change in the policy of the United States regarding Taiwan even after Trump's conversation.
It should be noted that the United States severed official diplomatic relations with Taiwan in 1979 in support of China's 'one country, one policy'. However, the United States has always maintained informal friendly relations with the country.
