The Dhaka Times Desk 'Kazi Castle' This house built in Islampur area of Sylhet is currently known as the most expensive house in Bangladesh. The exterior and interior craftsmanship and furniture of this house looks like a royal palace. Prominent industrialist Mahtabur Rahman of Sylhet owns this house. The estimated cost of the 80 thousand square feet house is around 300 crore rupees.
But according to many, its cost is more than that. About the construction cost of the house, the house owner says, “I built the house for my own use. So I haven't calculated how much it cost to build. If it were my business, I would count. How much I bought and how much to sell, I used to keep the profit and loss account. I spent whatever was necessary for the house.”
Mahtabur Rahman is originally an expatriate. He said that he built the house after coming to the country and staying together with the whole family. He is the Chairman and Managing Director of the world famous brand Al-Haramain Perfumes Group of Companies. He is also the chairman of NRB Bank. He was elected as CIP three times in a row by the Government of Bangladesh.
Mahtabur Rahman received the Bangladesh Bank Remittance Award in recognition of sending the most remittances to Bangladesh in 2013 and 14.
It took 250 workers 8 years to build the three-storey building. Engineers from four countries worked to build the house.
He brought engineers from Dubai to design the house. Later the interior was designed by a Lebanese engineer. The German company Tiffany Lighting does the whole house lighting. Besides, a French company did the floor work of the house.
The house is built on about 8 acres of land. The roof of this house has helipad, swimming pool, steam bath and modern bathroom with elevator. The 29 master beds are designed in light of the cultural heritage of 29 countries.
There are separate rooms for organizing various family events. The ground floor of the building has 9 dining rooms, 14 drawing rooms. There are two elevators. The interior is decorated with expensive furniture. Elegant Italian book matching one plate marble abounds throughout the home. Besides, the replica of the door of the Holy Kaaba Sharif gifted by the Waqf Ministry of Saudi Arabia has been carefully kept inside the house.
Being expensive and luxurious, it is currently known as the most expensive house in Bangladesh.
