The Dhaka Times Desk The 18-party alliance-backed candidates were elected in the four city corporation elections, not only for the post of mayor, but also for most general councilors and reserved women councilors. This election is also affecting the national politics of the country.

Although the four city corporation election is a local election, this election has an impact on the national politics of the country - this is what the politically aware people of the country think. The political situation of the country as it was before the four city elections now appears to be completely reversed. Because even the ruling Awami League did not think that the result will come. Everyone thought that Awami League would have at least two seats. But all the mayoral posts have gone under the control of the 18-party alliance, giving a thumbs up to everyone's idea. A similar situation prevails in the position of councillor.

In recent times, the politics of the country has come to a confused state. Jamaat-e-Islami's slanderous politics and Hefazate-e-Islami's politics, especially on the trial of war criminals, have brought the country's political situation to a critical stage. After the May 5 night 'Shapla' operation, Hefazet Islami appears to have been controlled by the government. In fact, Hefazat Islami has weakened somewhat. However, there are reports in the political market that they are preparing to re-invigorate themselves.

But no matter where the situation is, the four city elections have shaken the foundation of the government. Although the government is saying that the foundation of democracy has been strengthened. The government has proved that neutral elections can be held during the tenure of this government. But the reality is different. In fact, there is a mixed reaction among the people regarding the city elections. The opposition party has always protested the government's repressive policies. This time they are saying, 'Government's suppression policy' has been manifested in the four city elections.

18 parties are ahead in the post of councilor

18 party alliance won 75 out of 116 general councilor posts. 14-party coalition-backed candidates, including the Awami League, won only 31. And candidates known as independents won 10 seats. There are 18 party-supported 18 and 14 party-supported 14 and independent 7 posts in general women councilor posts.

Rajshahi

18 from BNP, six from Awami League and four as independents and one from Jamaat won the post of general councilor in Rajshahi City Corporation. In Ward No. 8, the result has been postponed due to a malfunction in the EVM machine at a booth. And four of BNP, three of Awami League, two of Jamaat and one independent won in women councillors.

Khulna

18 of BNP, eight of Awami League, four independents and one of Jamaat have won general councilorship in Khulna. There are four women councilors from BNP, two from Awami League, four independents and two from Jamaat.

Barisal

20 of BNP, eight of Awami League, one each of Japa and Jamaat won the post of general councilor in Barisal. There are four female councilors from BNP, five from Awami League and one independent.

Sylhet

In Sylhet, 13 of BNP, eight of Awami League, three of Jamaat and two as independents won in Sylhet. An election is suspended. Four from BNP, four from Awami League and one as an independent have won the post of women councillors.

In this way, 18 party alliances advanced not only for the post of mayor but also for the post of councilor in each city. It should be noted that the elections were completed in four city corporations on June 15.
