Egypt's appeals court overturned the government's decision to list more than 1,500 people, including former president Muhammad Morsi, on the terrorist list. The highest court of the country gave this judgment in view of the application made by Morsi and 1537 Egyptians.

After the fall of Hosni Mubarak in a popular coup in 2011, Mohamed Morsi was elected president in 2012 with a landslide victory for the first time. However, after assuming responsibility, he adopted various ways of axing power to absolve his authority. When people took to the streets for and against him, intense tension was created in the country.

In the midst of that unrest, the Egyptian army led by army chief Fattah al-Sisir overthrew Morsi. At one point, Morsi was imprisoned on various charges. Imprisonment for various terms is also given. Former Egyptian President Morsi is currently imprisoned in an infamous prison called Tora.

In addition to Morsi, the famous football star Mohamed Abu Treika is also on that list. The country's government decided to include them in the terrorist list because of their association with the Muslim Brotherhood. Morsi appealed to the court against this.

Morsi was sentenced to 20 years in prison in April 2015 for ordering the torture and arrest of protesters outside the presidential palace in 2012. In September 2016, he was sentenced to another 25 years in prison for providing intelligence to Qatar. He was sentenced to another 3 years in prison in December 2017 after finding him guilty of contempt of court.

According to the report of the Detention Review Panel, the conditions in which Morsi is being held amount to torture under Egyptian and international law. The current president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, is thought to be responsible for the torture.
