The Dhaka Times Desk The first thing you need to legally drive any motor vehicle is a driving license. Today we will know how to generate driving license.
To get a driver's license, you must first obtain a learner's or learner's driver's license. To get learner or apprentice driving license you have to apply at the circle office of BRTA under which your permanent or present address is covered. The authority will issue you a learner driving license if the below mentioned documents and application are correct. With this learner driving license you will do training driving for 2/3 months.

Requirements for learner driving license:
1. Application in the prescribed form for Learner or Apprentice Driving License.
2. Medical certificate from a registered doctor that you are physically fit.
3. Attested photocopy of National ID Card / Birth Certificate / Passport.
4. Prescribed Fees, 1 Category-345/-Rs and 2 Category-Rs 518/-Receipt of deposit in bank branch approved by BRTA.
5. 03 copies of stamps and 01 copies of passport size photographs taken recently.
Category 1 means 'only for driving a motorcycle or a light motor vehicle'
Category II means 'together with motorcycles and any light motor vehicles'
At the end of the training, you have to pass the written, oral and field test by communicating again. After passing, apply for smartcard driving license again in a prescribed form by paying necessary documents and fees at that circle office. At this stage smart card driving license will be issued with your biometrics i.e. digital photograph, digital signature and fingerprint. Once the smart card driving license printing is done, you will be informed about its receipt through SMS.
Requirements for Smartcard Driving License:
1. Application in prescribed form.
2. Medical certificate by registered doctor.
3. Attested photocopy of National ID Card / Birth Certificate / Passport.
4. Prescribed Fee (Professional- Rs. 1679/- and Non-Professional- Rs. 2542/-) Receipt of deposit in designated bank of BRTA.
5. Police Investigation Report for Professional Driving Licence.
6. 1 copy of passport size photograph taken recently.

Types of Professional Driving License:
1. Professional light: Professional light driving license should be taken for driving those motor vehicles whose weight is below 2500kg. Applicant must be at least 20 years old.
2. Professional Intermediate: Professional intermediate driving license is required to drive the motor vehicle whose weight is 2500 to 6500 kg. After at least 03 years of use of professional light driving license the candidate can apply for professional medium license and the age of the candidate should be at least 23 years.
(3) Professional heavy: Candidates can apply for professional heavy driving license for driving motor vehicles weighing more than 6500 kg. However, the applicant must have used the professional intermediate license for at least 3 years. He can then apply for a professional heavy license. Besides, the age of the applicant should be at least 26 years.
