According to a report in Times of India, this is the first time that India is going to start trains without engines. If everything goes well, this special train will be seen on Indian railways in the next few months!
It is known that this train has been made entirely with indigenous technology. And this train is named 'Train Eighteen'. This train looks a lot like metro rail. This train is faster than other trains. The maximum speed of this train is 160 km per hour.
This new train will run using the same technology as local trains or metro cars can run without an engine using 'self propelled' technology. No foreign technology has been used in making this train. Not only in terms of technology, but also in terms of passenger comfort, 'Eightin' is believed to beat other trains.
It has been informed that the 16-room trains will travel between major cities. Of these, two will be executive class and 14 non-executive. These rooms have 56 and 78 seats respectively. This train will also have amenities like GPS, WiFi, LED lighting, automatic doors, spacious luggage storage, full rubber flooring!
There will also be provision of wheelchairs for the elderly and sick inside the train compartment. When the train reaches the platform, there will be sliding foot steps instead of stairs. This train will run in such a way that passengers will not feel any jolt inside it.
Experts in the country said that since this train has driver's cabin on both sides, there will be no need to change the engine even after reaching the terminal station. Running on 'self propelled' technology, this train will be able to increase its speed as fast as the local train. Due to which train eightin will take much less time to complete the journey than other trains.
It is known that the famous Integral Coach Factory (ICF) of Chennai is the manufacturer of this special train.
The Indian Railways Ministry is hopeful that the RDSO (Research Design and Standards Organization) will give the train a passenger clearance after two to three months of trial run after the train is ready. In total, ICF has been assigned the responsibility of the Ministry of Railways to make a total of 6 such trains, according to a report in Times of India.
