This Nobel-winning scientist was suffering from dementia for a long time in his last years. The Nobel laureate died at the age of 96 in a hospital in Rexburg, Idaho. Although he left the world, he left behind for the people of the world the valuable theory he explained about the Higgs-boson.
Lederman was born in New York City in 1922. His father owned a laundry. Brought up in a lower-middle-class family, the scientist joined the army after graduating in chemistry and served in World War II. After returning from the war, he resumed his studies. In 1951, he started researching sub-atomic particles at Columbia University. In 1988, Lederman won the Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery of a sub-atomic particle called the muon neutrino. However, after being diagnosed with dementia, he sold the Nobel gold medal in 2015 for 765,000 dollars!
After the sale of the medals, Lederman and his wife said they enjoyed the Nobel honor. His wish, his immense love for science, should be a resource for all - that is desirable.
