553 year old Majidbaria Shahi Jame Masjid

The scene you are seeing is the 553 year old Majidbaria Shahi Jame Masjid of Mirzaganj in Patuakhali District. It is a historical mosque.

The greatness of nature is spread all over Bangladesh. It also has eye-catching architecture and antiquities. One of these monuments is the Majidbaria Shahi Jame Mosque in Mirzaganj, Patuakhali district.

This ancient Muslim architecture dates back to 553 years ago. This mosque was built during the Sultanate period. The area was named Masjidbaria after the name of the mosque.

It is heard that later a UP Chairman named Majid changed Masjidbaria to Majidbaria, since then it is known as Majidbaria.

But with the passage of time, this historic mosque has lost its beauty and tradition. Art and architectural monuments are gradually deteriorating due to lack of care. Despite that, hundreds of visitors still flock to see this historic mosque. This mosque is located 20 km southwest of Patuakhali district town and 12 km east of Barguna district town.

According to various historical sources, Ruknuddin Shah, an independent Sultan of Ilyach Shahi dynasty, occupied the then Bakla and built this mosque in 1465. This mosque in Chandradwip (in present day Barisal division) is the first brick architecture.

This mosque has a balcony. There are 3 beautifully crafted arches. The east side of the mosque has 3 archways and 6 pillars like 8 corner minarets. There are two windows each on the east-north and south sides. However, due to lack of renovation, the shutters and frames of the doors and windows are on the verge of collapsing.

A massive dome gives this mosque an inimitable beauty. The walls of the mosque are about 75 inches thick. The inner walls of this mosque also have some ancient traces of various crafted Muslim architecture. However, due to carelessness and neglect, the plaster of the wall is falling off.

Local residents feel that a quick renovation will make the mosque more attractive and attractive. It will survive for many years as the history-tradition and Islamic architecture of Muslim rule in Bangladesh. So it needs to be reformed urgently.
