Historic Masjidkur Mosque in Koira, Khulna

The similarity between the design of Amadi's Masjid Kur Mosque and the design of Sikandar Shah's 9-domed mausoleum next to Pandua's Adina Mosque is also noteworthy.

The picture you are looking at is the historic Masjid Kur Mosque in Koira, Khulna. There is a lot of history about this historic mosque.

Amadi is a very old village of Koira Upazila in Khulna. This village on the east bank of Kapotaksha river is famous for history. It is believed that Mahatma Khan Jahan Ali's disciples Bura Khan and Fateh Khan ruled the area as Kacharis in this village around 1450-1490. They built a 9-domed mosque here, which is called Masjidkur. The brick-built mosque is reputed to be the oldest antiquities of South Bengal.

The size of each side of this square mosque is 16.76 meters, the inner size is 12.19 meters. Apart from the wall facing the Qibla, the remaining three walls have 3 arches or entrances each to enter the mosque. However, the middle entrances are relatively large. A small semi-circular mihrab has been made on the wall facing the kebele. The middle mihrab is relatively large. Inside the mosque there is a roof on 4 pillars. These 4 pillars divide the interior of the mosque into 9 squares. The squares are covered with domes. The mosque was also once decorated with terracotta tiles, many of which have fallen off or been lost.

The similarity between the design of Amadi's Masjid-Kur Mosque and the design of Sikandar Shah's 9-domed tomb next to Pandua's Adina Mosque is also noteworthy.

However, the design of the buildings built by Khan Jahan at Bagerhat seems to be almost similar. The mosque is currently under the supervision of the Department of Archeology of the Government of Bangladesh.
