MA Mannan, the candidate supported by 18 parties, has won the Gazipur City Corporation election with a huge margin of votes. Results of all centers out of 392 centers are available. According to the private result, MA Mannan got 3 lakh 65 thousand 444 votes in television symbol. His nearest rival Azmat Ulla Khan, supported by 14 parties, got 2 lakh 58 thousand 867 votes in the doat-pen symbol. MA Mannan won by securing 1 lakh 6 thousand 577 votes more than his rival Azmat Ulla.

Prof. MA Mannan is the first Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation by securing victory by a huge margin, proving false all the calculations of those who predicted that there would be a 'tough fight' between BNP's mayoral candidate Prof. MA Mannan and Awami League's advocate Azmat Ulla Khan. The ruling party could not prevent the victory of the BNP candidate despite deploying all their strength. Awami League leaders and activists never imagined that the party candidate would lose with such a large margin of votes. Like the four city elections, the main determinant of victory and defeat in this election is the national issue, but political observers believe that there were various weaknesses in the preparation of local issues and Awami League's fight for votes. Awami League's defeat in the battle for status in the Gazipur city elections is a big warning sign for the party in the upcoming national elections.

It should be noted that the election of the newly formed Gazipur City Corporation was held yesterday on July 6. Voting is conducted continuously from 8 am to 4 pm. In this election, the number of voters is 10 lakh 26 thousand 939, presiding officer, assistant presiding officer and polling agent together, about eight thousand officers are working in the election. 11,500 members of law and order forces including RAB-Police-BGB-Ansar were in charge of security.
