At least 1,300 killed in US coalition strikes in Syria and Iraq

The Dhaka Times Desk More than 1,300 civilians have been killed in recent US-led operations against the Islamic State (IS) in Syria and Iraq.

UK-based monitoring organization Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported this news with reference to BBC.

But the US coalition also claimed that these people were killed in this attack as unintentional. It is said from the side of the organization that the US coalition has carried out 34 thousand 502 attacks since 2014.

The coalition says 1,300 civilians have been killed in their attacks, but the agency says the number is much higher. They claim that around 1300 civilians have been killed in these attacks.

In 2014, the militant group IS seized large parts of Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate. This spread the fear of IS across the Middle East.

Capitalizing on this, the US coalition launched a reckless attack against IS. The number of civilians killed in their operations now disclosed is slightly higher than the number of casualties they claimed 8 months ago. They claimed that a total of 100 civilians were killed in their operations.

The US coalition said in a statement that it was still reviewing the 111 possible civilian casualties.

The latest number of civilian casualties released by the US coalition is much lower than the number of casualties claimed by human rights organizations and watchdog groups. The groups said the actual death toll was much higher.

According to a report by the BBC, an investigation by rights groups last month revealed that in 2017 alone, more than 1,600 civilians were killed in the operation to oust IS from the Syrian city of Raqqa. Raqqa was the 'capital' of IS's self-proclaimed caliphate.
