Dharmendra-Hema Malini
The most successful Bollywood star couple of the 70s was Dharmendra-Hema Malini. Hema was born in a Hindu Tamil family. Her lover Dharmendra was also a Hindu. However, their relationship could not take the form of marriage.
Because Dharmendra was a married man. His first married wife was Prakash Kar. According to Hindu scriptures, a husband can never marry a second wife while the first wife is alive. So there was only one way open before them for marriage. And that is conversion. And so they did. Both of them converted to Islam and got married. Hema Malini and Dharmendra got married on August 21, 1979 according to Islam. After marriage, Hema's name was changed to Ayesha and Dharmendra's name was changed to Delwar Khan.
