The Dhaka Times Desk The Punjab government has ordered the removal of air conditioners and TVs from the jail cell of Pakistan's former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.
69-year-old former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Al-Aziz is serving 7 years in prison in the Steel Mill case. Nawaz Sharif has been lodged in Court Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. On July 17, the Punjab Home Ministry issued this order in a letter written to the Inspector General of Prisons.
The letter addressed to the Inspector General of Jails, Lahore said that as per the following directives of the Prime Minister, no facilities will be given to criminals and money embezzlers in jails.
Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif, president of Nawaz Sharif's party Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Nawaz's younger brother, expressed concern in a letter about this issue.
Shahbaz Sharif said that a medical team formed by the Punjab government has asked Nawaz to maintain the temperature of his room considering his health. Failure to do so may have negative effects on his kidneys. Shahbaz Sharif also claimed that it was a threat to his brother's life.
