How do astronauts clean their hair in space?

An American female astronaut, Karen Neiberg, recently released a video of herself cleaning her hair on the space station. The video shows Neiberg cleaning his hair and the video has already received a huge response.

Karen Neiberg said in the video, “Many people I know have asked me if I clean my hair in space, so I made this video to let everyone know. Here everyone can see how a female astronaut cleans her hair in the zero gravity of space.”

In the world we clean our hair by using shampoo on our head or by standing under the shower and using shampoo. But all that is not possible in space where water does not flow downwards because there is no effect of gravity in space. Everything there floats in the void.

“I first put some warm water on my scalp and let it into the crack,” says Karen Nyberg. Here I have a mirror in which I watch and work the water into the hair. Some of the water tends to fly away when applying water to the hair. In this case, I try to absorb as much water as possible because water is limited and precious. Meanwhile, I use my comb to work the water and shampoo into the hair. Finally I try to wipe my hair with my towel. Our air conditioning is sufficient for drying hair, because it sucks the water from our body and use and cleans it and converts it back into our drinkable water.”

Karen Nyberg has been on the space station for about 6 months, she is a space engineer. Karen Nyberg is accompanied by 16 other astronauts.
