The Dhaka Times Desk Another construction project was undertaken in Sydney, Australia to design the Mother Language Memorial. This memorial will be built in Sydney's famous Bengalipara Lakember Peel Park.
According to media reports, this memorial will be built in honor of the International Mother Language Day and as an indicator of the language.
This project has been undertaken by the initiative of Bangladeshis residing in Sydney. Construction of the memorial will begin under the supervision of Sydney's Canterbury Bankstown City Council.
A preliminary design of the memorial has been prepared. It has the structure of an altar in design - holding the earth on two hands. The design of the world includes the characters of different languages including Bengali characters. The height and width of the memorial will be 28 feet.
The initial cost of the construction of this memorial is estimated at 120,000 Australian dollars. It is said that the money will be collected in cooperation with the Canterbury Bankstown City Council and Bangladeshis living in the country. A fundraising event has also been organized at Peel Park on August 18. Also anyone can send donations to the council.
It should be noted that earlier in 2006, the first International Mother Language Day memorial was built by Bangladeshis in Sydney's Ashfield Park.
