He did this work in association with a team of scientists from the University of Utah.

A group of scientists from the University of Utah has developed a camera lens for smartphones that is a thousand times thinner than a hair. Bangladeshi scientist Manjurul Mim Feroz is in this team. He is a former student of Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) in Electrical Engineering. He is currently doing his PhD at the University of Utah, USA.

Other members of Manjurul Mim Feroze's team are Sauranshu Banerjee, Fernando Guevara Vezquez, Apratim Majumder, Barrardi Sensal Rodriguez and Rajesh Menon. All of this group are electrical engineering and computer engineering teacher-students. Manjurul Mim said about the lens making, the lens made by them is 1000 times thinner than a hair.

But in terms of capability, it is on par with conventional lenses. It may appear that the microstructure consists of a lens of very small pixels. But these are not individual lenses but all working together as one lens.

Another member of this team, Rajesh Menon, said that this lens can be produced at a lower cost. The reason is that it uses plastic instead of glass. With the help of the newly developed camera lens, it will be possible to make the back body of the smartphone thinner. The lens can be used not only in smartphone cameras, but also in lightweight drones. He said that it can also be used as a thermal imaging camera in temperature measuring devices.
