According to a news of India Today, this old shoe in the auction is Nike's Moon Shoe. Better known as the moon walking shoe.
Nike sneakers used in 1971 were sold at auction for 4537 thousand dollars. Which in Bangladeshi currency stands at more than 3 crore 7 million taka! This shoe has created a new record in shoe auction.
Auction house Sotheby's said in a statement that the previous highest price for a pair of shoes signed by Michael Jordan, used in the 1984 Olympic basketball finals. In 2017, a pair of Nike shoes was sold for $190,000.
Canadian collector Miles Nadal bought the pair of Nike shoes at a bargain online auction. Nadal said he bought another 99 pairs of shoes in a private auction that was sold in secret.
Nadal added, “I am thrilled to have bought this Moon Shu. This is one of the rare shoes made by Nike. Besides, there is a sports history associated with it. This pair of shoes was also part of the pop culture of the 70s.”
Bill Bowerman, co-founder of American sporting goods manufacturer Nike, designed the Flat Race shoe for runners at the 1972 Olympic Trials, according to media reports.
The auction house said the shoe was the last of about 12 pairs made at the time.
Sotheby's head of global e-commerce, Noah Unsch, said, “We were able to sell these iconic moon shoes for nearly double the previous record auction price. We are very excited and happy about this event.”
