The Dhaka Times Desk Believe it or not it is possible to replace the human head with the current medical technology! Italian neuroscientist Sergio Canavero said this in a complex study of human head transplantation.
Researcher Canavero said a head transplant would require two patients, one to be transplanted into the body of the other. An “ultra-sharp-blade” and “polymer gum” will be used to complete the task. Canavero also said the subject is much like Mary Shelley's science fiction novel Frankenstein. But in this case the matter is very complicated because one's head has to be attached to the other's spine. In this case, if the patient survives, there is a possibility of paralysis.
Neuroscientist Sergio Canavero said his research on human head transplants is still ongoing and in this case his research is similar to the 1970 rhesus monkey head transplant. Scientists have been researching head transplants since the 1970s. At that time, a doctor named Robert White successfully transplanted the head of a rhesus monkey into the body of another rhesus monkey. The monkey was alive for 7 days after successful smuggling.
Sergio Canavero said the polymer gel they are experimenting with to replace the head is not ideal. Besides, he now needs a lot of money for this research. He further said that the complete research will take 2 years to complete and the head donor must be of young age and have a fully functional brain. He said that if his research is successful, new possibilities will open up for many physically disabled people whose brains work properly but their bodies do not.
