The Dhaka Times Desk Iran has flown a 'red flag of war' over the top of the Holy Mosque, signaling imminent retaliation for the killing of General Qasem Soleimani in a US strike.
Yesterday (January 4), the incident of rocket attack on the US embassy in Baghdad and the Balad air base of the US forces in Salahuddin province. A few hours later, Iran hoisted the crimson flag on the highest dome of the holy mosque Jamkaran in Qam province of Iran.
However, it is not yet known who carried out the attack on the US installations in Baghdad. 5 rockets were fired simultaneously in that attack. It is said that 5 people have been injured so far.
International media reported that this is the first time in history that Iran has flown the crimson flag at Jamkaran Mosque. The flag reads, 'Those who want to avenge Husain's blood'.
The flying of the flag is seen as Iran's pledge to take revenge on the US for Soleimani's killing. This flag is also seen as a warning of possible war. In Shia culture, the red flag is seen as a symbol of revenge for wrongful bloodshed.
Earlier last Friday (January 3), outraged by the killing of Qassem Soleimani, thousands of mourners took to the streets of Baghdad and chanted 'Down with America'.
General Qassem Soleimani, head of the elite Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in an attack by US forces at Baghdad International Airport on Thursday night (January 2). The Pentagon confirmed that Soleimani was killed on the orders of US President Donald Trump.
After the incident, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, Defense Minister Amir Hatami, former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Mohsen Rezaei, and various high-ranking leaders of Iran have warned that America will have to pay a heavy price for the killing of Soleimani.
