So how is it possible to reach Chittagong from Dhaka in the same time interval by land? Bangladesh Railway is going to make this impossible possible.
It is known that Bangladesh Railway is going to start bullet train or high speed rail service soon. If it starts and runs non-stop, it will be possible to reach Chittagong from Dhaka in just 55 minutes. And if a break can be given, it will take 73 minutes.
But currently it normally takes more than 6 hours to go from Dhaka to Chittagong. Although it seems surprising to hear the matter, it is said to be real. Bangladesh is about to enter that era.
This high-speed bullet train is capable of running at a maximum speed of 300 km per hour and can carry around 50,000 passengers per day.
According to media reports, Bangladesh Railway has already completed the feasibility study of this high-speed rail service. For that, the possible route has also been selected and the design work of this rail project worth about Tk 97 thousand crores is also progressing.
But two transport experts termed the project as 'ambitious'. They have already raised questions about whether Bangladesh Railways has the capacity to run high-speed trains where it has not started electric rail services so far.
Director of the project. Kamrul Ahsan told a media that, 'The detailed design of the project will be completed by April this year.'
Recently he said, 'We will then prepare a DPP (Project Development Proposal) for this project. We will also do fundraising work.'
He hopes that by 2020, it will be possible to present the project in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).
Kamrul Ahsan also said that the consultants have talked about charging the passengers 10 rupees per kilometer for this railway. Accordingly, a passenger from Dhaka to Chittagong has to pay about 2000 taka fare. However, the final decision will be taken after further analysis, he said.
Kamrul Islam also said that the proposed railway has a total of 6 stations. They are - Dhaka, Narayanganj, Comilla, Feni, Pahartali and Chittagong.
It should be noted that currently, the fare from Dhaka to Chittagong is Tk 345 for Sobhon chair and Tk 656 for AC chair. Apart from this, Dhaka-Chittagong flight fare by Biman is between Tk 2500-3000.
