The Dhaka Times Desk Recently, a British coin was sold for 10 million 40 million Bangladeshi taka! Which is the most expensive coin in the history of that country.

According to media reports, the coin was from the era of former British King Edward VIII and contained his image. However, the identity of the person who bought this particular coin has not been revealed. Although this coin was sold for 54 million rupees a few years back.

It is known that one side of the coin has the image of King Edward VIII. On the other side is a scene of a majestic horseman seated on a galloping horse with a large club in his hand.

It is known that when King Edward VIII ascended the throne in January 1936, 6 coins were experimentally minted with his image. But the coins never hit the market. This is because in the same year King Wallis Simpson was expelled from the British throne for marrying a widow.

According to common law in Britain, rulers such as kings and heads of the church could never marry widows.

In a historic address to the public before abdication, King Edward is reported to have said, 'I could never have borne the burden of this royal duty without the help and support of the woman I love. So I stepped down from my duties as a king.'

The Royal Mint is a renowned manufacturer of all types of coins for the United Kingdom. They told the media that only 6 coins were minted in the name of King Edward for testing at that time. Two of these coins are currently privately owned. The remaining 4 are in the museum.

This coin was previously owned by a private collector in the United States. He bought this coin from an auction in 2014 for Tk 5.4 million. The coin was valued at Tk 10.4 million in the last sale, making it the most expensive coin in Britain at the moment.
