Wild elephants in some places prey on people to such an extent that people are forced to flee their homes out of exhaustion. For example, a man has been living in a tree for 13 years at the origin of a wild elephant!
Anandabazar newspaper of Kolkata said that the incident happened in India. A herd of elephants from the jungles of Bhutan ravaged a village in India. I had to run away and climb the tree because of the fear of the elephant. I had to see in front of my eyes, how the herd of elephants is destroying the house made by hand. After spending many years like this, Vijay Brahm, a resident of Musalpur in Baksa district of Assam, India, became disgusted with the mud house life.
So at last he started staying on the tree. Vijay, who has been living on a tree for the past 13 years, is now called 'Ape Man' by the villagers. Vijay said that he does not like to come in contact with people.
After being orphaned as a child, he spent his days working in other people's houses. His house was near Chowki forest area. A single man, the small house was his only possession. But unfortunately it was often broken by elephants.
Vijay also said that, after this incident, I thought again and again when night falls, when I have to climb the trees because of the fear of elephants, then what is the use of building a house on the ground? So I collected wood and planks and built a small house on top of a tree in the forest.
Then Bijay left other's housework. He began to eat whatever was available in the forest. After spending six weeks inside the Chowki forest area, Vijay made a new nest in a tree near Khairani Pathar on the banks of Pagladia river. It has been almost 7 years there. Vijay said that he spends his days eating whatever he can get - potatoes, green vegetables, river fish, snails and crabs. What else can a single person want or have?
