The scene you are seeing is Thakurpur Jame Masjid. It is a historic mosque in Chuadanga district.
Thakurpur Jame Masjid is considered as one of the oldest Islamic architectural monuments of Chuadanga district in terms of tradition and aesthetics. The Thakurpur Jame Masjid, located in Thakurpur village on the side of the Chuadanga-Jhenaidah road, just 2 km away from the Chuadanga district town, is now well-known as the Pirganj Jame Masjid.
Although actual information about the construction of the main part of this mosque is not available, according to the local elders, in 1698, Hazrat Afu Shah, a saint from West Bengal, came to Thakurpur to spread Islam and set up a khanka. He built the mosque in one night with the help of jinns. That's why many local people call this mosque as "Jin's Mosque".
On entering the Thakurpur Jame Masjid, built on about 30 bighas of land, an entrance arch built in modern architectural style will be seen. Behind the mosque is a large pond, rows of coconut trees and a graveyard.
Folklore has it that every Thursday the jinns pray in this mosque and the oil or water left by the people is blown after praying. Locals believe that wearing this water or oil helps them solve various problems. The mosque has been renovated several times keeping the original structure intact. According to a tradition of almost 300 years, the annual Orsh is organized in this mosque premises on the 12th of the Bengali month every year. Many visitors from far and wide come here to see this traditional mosque.
