The Dhaka Times Desk Due to a private organization, after 47 years, one sister got an elder sister and a younger brother. Boon Chea, a 101-year-old sister, and her younger brother, another 92-year-old sister, Boon Sen, came to Jeeban Sayahn.
They saw each other's face in an emotional moment. They last met in 1973. It is known that all of them were separated from their families during the Khmer Rouge reign of terror in Cambodia in the 1970s. About 2 million people were killed during the Khmer Rouge regime. Since then there is no meeting between them.
Boon Sen assumed that his entire family had died at that time. At that time many families were broken. Many children have been taken away from their parents. At that time, the communists were pushing for absolute dominance in the entire country.
Boon Sen lost her husband during Polpot's rule. He then settled in Stung Minche, known as the cesspool of capital Phnom Penh. He has been looking for waste material in the garbage for many days. Lived by selling it. He also took care of the children.
Their home was in a village in Kampong Cham province. He has always talked about his dream of visiting that village. However, due to age and inability to walk, it was not possible for him to cross this long distance.
Since 2004, Boon Sen has been cared for by the NGO Cambodian Children's Fund. It was they who began to take measures to realize Boon Sen's dream. They investigate and find that Boon Sen's one sister and one brother are still alive. They are living in their own village.
Preparations also continued for Boon Sen to meet elder sister Boon Chea and younger brother (name not known) as soon as possible. Finally last week the three siblings met after almost half a century!
They are lost in the days of the past, when everyone lived together. Then many memories floated in their eyes. After so many years, the gathering of siblings turned into a festival of laughter and joy.
Boon Sen said, I left the village many years ago. I did not return after that. I always thought my brother and sister were dead. Now I can hold my elder sister's hand - finding that I can't put into words what it means to me. When my little brother touched my hand for the first time, I just cried.
The Khmer Rouge also killed the elder sister Boon Chair's husband. He also thought that his younger brother Boon Sen was dead. He said, Palpot also killed 13 of our relatives. I thought it was Boon Sen.
