ইউরোপের অন্যান্য দেশের তুলনায় সেখানে সংক্রমণের হার বর্তমানে অনেক কম। এছাড়াও লকডাউনের বিধিনিষেধও কিছুটা শিথিল করেছে পর্তুগাল সরকার।

পর্তুগিজ স্বাস্থ্যমন্ত্রী আন্তোনিও সেলস জানিয়েছেন, দেশটিতে এই পর্যন্ত করোনা ভাইরাসে আক্রান্ত রোগী শনাক্ত হয়েছেন ১৮ হাজার ৯১ জন, আর মারা গেছেন ৫৯৯ জন; যা প্রতিবেশী স্পেনের তুলনায় বহু কম। স্পেনে শুধু মারাই গেছেন ১৮ হাজারেরও বেশি মানুষ, আক্রান্ত হয়েছেন এক লাখের ওপর। তাছাড়াও পর্তুগালে করোনায় মৃত্যুহারও প্রতিবেশীদের তুলনায় যথেষ্টই কম, তা প্রতি লাখে মাত্র ৫ দশমিক ৫ শতাংশ।

পর্তুগিজ এই মন্ত্রী জানিয়েছেন, গত ১৮ মার্চ দেশটিতে লকডাউন নির্দেশনা জারি করা হয়েছিলো। তবে জনগণের দারুণ ব্যবহার এবং নিয়মানুবর্তিতার কারণে এই নির্দেশনার কিছুটা শিথিল করছে সরকার। তবে পরিস্থিতি পুরোপুরি নিয়ন্ত্রণে না আসায় আগামী ১ মে পর্যন্ত দেশজুড়ে লকডাউন অব্যাহত থাকবে।

ইতিপূর্বে পর্তুগিজ প্রধানমন্ত্রী আন্তোনিও কস্তা জানিয়েছিলেন, করোনা পরিস্থিতি উন্নতির দিকে থাকলেও লকডাউন পুরোপুরি তুলে নেওয়ার সময় এখনও হয়নি।

তিনি আরও বলেন, ‘আমরা কেবল তখনই কার্যক্রম শুরু করতে পারি যখন আমাদের প্রয়োজনীয় স্বস্তি এবং নিশ্চয়তা ফিরে পাবো। কার্যক্রম আবার চালুর মাধ্যমে আমরা নিয়ন্ত্রণযোগ্য সংক্রমণের ঝুঁকি আবারও বাড়িয়ে তুলতে পারি না।’
