The short film 'Daag' is based on the idea of 'A rapist is always a rapist'. In its story, it will be seen that a girl who was raped during the liberation war of 1971, falls into the same situation on her wedding night after many years. But then he became a protester. The film stars Shatabdi Wadud, Sharmin Joha Shashi and Bakar Bakul.
In May 2017, the short film Daag participated in the Short Film Corner of the 70th Cannes Film Festival. Although three years have passed, this film has not been seen from Bangladesh. Finally that opportunity has come.
The director of the film, Jaseem Ahmed, said that Daag was released on May 1 on the international platform Vimeo. In this on-demand-rental system, the film can be viewed from any part of the world. That's why anyone in the world can watch the film for just 1 dollar.
This film has been released on the internet as part of the 'Film for Humanity' initiative organized to raise funds to help the helpless, distressed and day laborers affected by the Corona virus epidemic.
All the money received from the screening of the film will be credited to the PayPal account of the non-profit voluntary organization Vidyananda Foundation. Their account is linked to the Vimeo page.
Producer Jaseem Ahmed said, 'When the British distribution company Shorts International released the film in America and Europe, many people wanted to know how the people of the country will see 'Daag'? We could not answer that question due to sensor complexity. It feels good to be able to give the good news for them now.'
Audiences in North America and Europe have been watching 'Daag' for the last three years through Shorts TV, a UK-based short film specialist TV channel. A British institution widely discussed in the Western world, the institution screens Oscar-nominated short films. Shorts International has acquired the television license for 'Daag' from the Cannes Short Film Corner.
Apart from airing on Shorts TV, Jaseem Ahmed's 3 films have been released on theatres, television, in-flight, mobile phones, video on demand (VOD) and other online platforms by British distributor Shorts International.
Producer Jaseem Ahmed also said that helpless people will get money after watching the film. Money can be sent to Vidyananda Foundation bank account and Bikash number. The organization has a PayPal account if anyone wants to donate from abroad.
