An international organization working on media freedom recently gave this information in a report, a Qatar-based news media said.
According to the report, 55 media workers have lost their lives due to lack of proper protective equipment while covering news during global health emergencies like pandemic corona. The Press Emblem Campaign or PEC has made this list of journalists who lost their lives in Corona from last March 1 to May 1.
Releasing the list on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, The Press Emblem Campaign warned that journalists have sacrificed their lives to gather news during this global crisis. Many have also been infected with the disease of Covid-19.
PEC also said that in the last two months, more than half a hundred journalists from 23 countries have lost their lives due to the Corona virus. Besides, many more journalists are currently under treatment due to corona virus. However, the PEC could not confirm whether all the 55 journalists who lost their lives due to Corona were infected while on duty.
It should be noted that according to the latest news, the number of people identified as infected with the corona virus worldwide is a little more than 33 lakh 50 thousand. More than 236,000 people have died among the infected. However, 1 million 62 thousand people have recovered after being infected with the disease of Covid-19.
