The Dhaka Times Desk Although liquor is a banned commodity in our country, it is sold openly in the outside world. As in India. But due to Corona it has been taxed more. If you buy alcohol in Delhi, you will have to pay 'corona tax' 70%!
Liquor shops have been allowed to open in various states of India after a long lockdown. The special instruction has been effective since last Monday. Arvind Kejriwal's government in Delhi has also issued a directive imposing 70 percent 'corona tax' on the purchase of liquor during the Corona period, according to media sources.
Meanwhile, people of the country are rushing to the shops to buy liquor in India after the issuance of central directives on the opening of liquor shops. Social distance is not accepted there. The police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the crowd in Delhi. Therefore, in such a situation, the Delhi government took the decision to impose a special tax on liquor.
The directive announced by the Delhi government on Monday said that now those who buy alcohol will have to pay an additional 70 percent 'corona tax'! This directive regarding purchase of liquor at increased price has come into force in the national capital region of Delhi from Tuesday i.e. May 5.
Liquor shops in Delhi reopened from Monday after being closed for 5 weeks. With this, hundreds of people started crowding in front of the shop. A senior government official said in this regard, this decision was taken when the situation became unfavorable due to non-observance of social distancing rules while buying alcohol.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, 'It is unfortunate that some shops in Delhi are witnessing chaos today. If we come to know of violation of social distancing and other norms from any area then the relaxation will be canceled by sealing the area.''
Kejriwal, however, said that due to the lockdown, the state government's revenue has come down significantly this year compared to last year. On the other hand, 70 percent additional tax on liquor due to 'corona fee' will increase the revenue a lot.
However, buyers of alcohol did not object to paying this additional price! They said, 'We have no problem paying this tax. I am donating it for the country.' So even after curfew, long queues are seen in the liquor shops, it is clear that the joy of liquor lovers has not subsided.
It should be noted that according to the calculations given by the Union Health Ministry of India, 46 thousand 433 corona virus infected patients have been detected in the country so far. 1 thousand 568 people have died among the infected. About 13 thousand have recovered.
