The Dhaka Times Desk Grameenphone is giving 100 million minutes of free talk time to customers who could not recharge or whose balance is very low in the month of April during the Corona crisis.
As an emergency service provider, Grameenphone has made the call rate 48 paise per minute from 8 am to 12 pm for 7.5 crore customers during this period.
Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Yasir Azman gave this information in an online press conference on Friday afternoon.
Yasir Azman also said that while working for the country, we never had to face such a critical situation before. None of us could have imagined that such a crisis would come and affect our lives in such a way. So now is the time to face it together.
He also said, "I am really encouraged by the collective efforts of the industry as a whole, including the government authorities, development agencies, to fight against Covid-19." Grameenphone's total pledges against Covid-19 till date stand at Tk 100 crore. Since its inception, Grameenphone has been closely reviewing the situation of Covid-19 and accordingly has been contributing to the fight against Corona through various initiatives directly and indirectly.
Grameenphone's retail traders are also playing an important role in providing customer service during these adverse times. Thinking about them, Grameenphone has also announced a safety-net credit scheme worth Tk 10 crore to help retail traders affected during this crisis.
It was informed in the press conference that the 'Dakche Amar Desh' initiative, a joint effort of Grameenphone and BRAC to help the country's poorest people, is also progressing. In this program, Grameenphone has already given food assistance of Tk 15 crore to 1 lakh families.
Moreover, Grameenphone has given 50,000 professional PPEs to hospitals designated by the Department of Health for the protection of doctors and health workers against Corona. Chief Marketing Officer Sajjad Hasib, Chief Communication Officer Khairul Basar also participated this time.
