Pigeon caught in India unravels mystery

The Dhaka Times Desk The mystery of the 'detective' pigeon caught in Indian Kashmir has finally been unravelled. The Pakistani owner of the pigeon has asked for the return of the pigeon. For this, he also sought the intervention of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi if necessary.

The owner, who lives in a Pakistani area four kilometers from the International Border Line in Jammu and Kashmir, said, 'I have a dozen pigeons, I released them for Eid celebrations. Among them, this pigeon entered the Indian territory. I have another of the pair.'

Pakistani newspaper Dawn traced the pigeon's owner and identified him as Habibullah. He said that the pigeon is a symbol of peace, his pigeon is not a spy or a terrorist. He requested to refrain from convicting the innocent bird.

It should be noted that last Monday, villagers in Indian-controlled Kashmir seized the pigeon and handed it over to the police. Suspecting it to be a Pakistani char, the police started an investigation. The pigeon had a ring on its leg and had some numbers on it. Which creates more mystery. According to Indian police, it could be a code number that means a rescue attempt is underway.

In response to this, the owner of the pigeons, Habibullah, said that he caught pigeons as a hobby. He said, 'I have worn a pigeon ring to identify the pigeons and I have written down the mobile phone number so that I can get them back if they are lost. What Indian security agencies call code numbers.'

But this is the first time a pigeon from Pakistan has entered India, BBC said in a news report. Earlier, in May 2015, India seized a white Pakistani pigeon. Another pigeon was seized in October 2016. A note was found on the pigeon, threatening Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
