The Dhaka Times Desk Scientists have said that the coronavirus was found in the country's wastewater long before patients with the coronavirus were detected in Italy.
The British media BBC gave such information in a report citing The National Institute of Health (ISS).
The BBC said in their report, scientists found the existence of the virus in the waste water of the cities of Milan and Turin on December 18, long before the first coronavirus patients were detected in Italy. This shows that the virus started to spread before it was thought to be spreading in other countries around the world.
At the end of last December, Chinese officials confirmed the detection of the first corona patient in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province. About a month later, on January 23, two tourists from Hubei Province fell ill in Rome shortly after entering Italy's Milan airport. Then Corona was caught among them.
An Italian citizen returned home from Wuhan, China on February 6. He was infected with corona. Those three were the first corona patients diagnosed in Italy. However, the first death due to Corona occurred in the country on February 22. A 78-year-old man died in the northern city of Padua.
Meanwhile, French scientists, after testing samples, said that on December 27, a patient with pneumonia was treated near Paris, who was originally infected with the corona virus.
On the other hand, another study revealed that the virus was found in wastewater collected from Barcelona in mid-January. Which happened about 40 days before the first corona patient was detected locally in Spain.
Previously, ISS scientists collected and tested 40 samples from a wastewater treatment plant in northern Italy between October last year and February this year.
ISS water expert Guisepina La Rosa said about this, 'The samples of October and November were tested and no virus was found. However, in January, the virus was found in wastewater collected from Bologna.'
These studies could help scientists understand how the virus spread in Italy, he said.
In mid-February, the first local case of the corona virus was detected in the city of Codogno in the Lombardy region of the country. Then on February 21, the city was locked down and declared a 'red zone' by the local administration.
Subsequently, 9 other cities in the region, including Veneto, were locked down. A nationwide lockdown was announced in early March.
