Bangladesh Animal Resources Research Institute (BLRI) has developed a new breed of chicken, whose meat is claimed to taste like native chicken.
A recent press release of the company said that this chicken looks exactly like the native chicken. Because the disease is less, the use of drugs will be much less in raising chickens of this breed. "This chicken is much tastier and safer."
Bangladesh Animal Resources Research Institute has also announced to market this breed of chicken 'within a short period of time'. An agreement in this regard has already been made with Aftab Hatchery Limited.
Nathu Ram Sarkar, director general of BLRI said in this regard, people have turned towards golden chicken expecting the taste of desi chicken, but they have not got that taste either. So our attempt was to bring back the lost taste of desi chicken. Hopefully, people can now eat local chicken if they want.
They look exactly like native chickens. This meat will be very safe, as these chickens are disease tolerant and will not require any additional medicine. Domestic chickens are not usually produced commercially, but commercial production of these new varieties of chickens would be feasible.
For now, this newly invented chicken has been named 'BLRI Multi Color Table Chicken'. It will be given a suitable brand name soon. The amount of meat will also be more than that of native chicken.
The Managing Director of Aftab Hatchery said that the disease of golden chickens has increased over time. Buyers have also turned their backs. But this time this new breed will respond all over the country, that is our expectation.
