The Dhaka Times Desk The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to interrogate at least 12 senior officials including Director General Abul Kalam Azad, Additional Director General Nasima Sultana of the Directorate General of Health in the investigation against the Department of Health including allowing Regent Hospital to conduct corona tests without respecting the rules.
They will be questioned about how the government's contract with Regent Hospital was done. They are being summoned this week, an ACC source told the media.
ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said in this regard, only those who are involved in the documents will be brought before the ACC. The ACC will interrogate those who gave permission to Regent Hospital to test for coronavirus, those who signed it, whoever is needed. The main focus of what the ACC is investigating is how the agreement was made with the government, whether there was a license or not. Whether the public health system is also affected.
According to the ACC sources, the contract between the Regent Hospital and the Department of Health did not include collection of corona samples in exchange for money. However, Regent Hospital has charged Tk 3,500 per test for Covid-19. Still, Regent Hospital gave false reports without checking.
In the first week of June, director of the National Institute of Preventive and Social Medicine (NIPSM) Professor Dr. Bayazid Khurshid Riaz informed the Director General of the Directorate of Health about the fraud of the Regent Hospital regarding the corona sample test. However, no action was taken by the Health Department regarding such fraud by the Regent. That is why the corruption of Regent Hospital continues in the name of corona test.
ACC said, ACC will now interrogate all the officials who are responsible for why action was not taken against Regent Hospital. As such, because of the signature of the record sheet, Director General of the Department of Health, Abul Kalam Azad, Additional Director General Dr. Dr. Nasima Sultana, director of hospital and clinic department. Aminul Hasan, deputy director of the same department. At least 12 officials including Mohammad Yunus Ali, Assistant Director Shafiur Rahman will be interrogated in several stages.
