According to media reports, this is what is going on in the society of Afghanistan. Girls are forced to keep their names secret from 'strangers outside' due to family pressure. There is a rule that even the doctor cannot be named!
A woman in Afghanistan went to the doctor with a high fever. Naturally, the rule is that while writing the name of the patient in the prescription, the doctor knows his name and writes it. He gave that prescription to his husband to bring the medicine. Seeing that, the husband burst into anger. The husband started beating the woman for revealing her name to a 'stranger man' outside!
This is not today's problem, this problem started with the birth of a girl child. For many years he had no name. It took a few years to name him. When a girl gets married, her name is not mentioned anywhere in the wedding invitation. If he is sick, his name is often not even mentioned in the doctor's prescription. When he dies, his name is not even written on the death certificate! He remains nameless even on the tombstone!
This is surprising, but this is the normal image of women in Afghanistan. Society does not look favorably on girls using their own names. Even using a girl's name is considered a disgrace to the family in many parts of Afghanistan.
Many Afghan men also never speak their sister's, wife's or mother's name in public. Because it is considered shameful and dishonorable to mention their names outside. Women are usually identified by their relationship to the oldest male in the family. For example, so-and-so's mother, so-and-so's sister or so-and-so's daughter just like this!
Afghan law also requires only the father's name to be recorded on a child's birth certificate. It has practical problems as well as psychological effects.
Due to which many women have joined the movement. They want freedom of expression. They named their movement "Where's My Name?" - That is, where is my name? These agitating women are using this hashtag on social media and posters.
Again, some have made oblique comments about this movement, some have said with a smile that maintaining peace in the family should be given priority.
However, some stars and prominent people of Afghanistan are also supporting this movement. Musician and music director Farhad Dariya and music composer Ariana Saeed have been in favor of this movement since the beginning.
"The main reason women are not recognized in the patriarchal society of Afghanistan is that men not only force women to cover their entire bodies to 'protect their honor', but also want to cover their names," said Afghan sociologist Ali Kave.
Afghan doctor Shakardakt Jafari believes that 'Afghan women need financial, social and emotional freedom to express their own identity. It is really difficult to succeed in the fight to establish women's rights, the government has to come forward to eliminate this inequality.'
The issue of women's right to freedom of expression has already been raised in the Afghan parliament. Mariam Sama also spoke for this movement in parliament. But 'Where's My Name?' The future of this movement mainly depends on what kind of reaction the politicians can show about this name movement.
