In this regard, the spokesman of the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ibrahim Kalin, said that the cats that are in this place, including Glee, will stay here.
He also said, this cat has become very famous. There are many other cats, but they are not as famous. This cat is staying, other cats can also stay in our mosque.
Note that Glee has become quite popular on social media. He also has an account on Instagram in his name. A man named Umut Bahchechir has been running that account for four years.
Glee has nearly 50,000 followers on Instagram. A photo of the cat is posted on the account. Visitors also tag their photos on this account.
Umut added, "I saw Glee every time I went to Aya Sophia." She used to pose like a model. People used to write to me, Glee, I will come to Istanbul to see you. It was very nice then.
It should be noted that the court ruled in favor of converting Aya Sophia into a mosque again on July 11 this year, declaring a decree of 1934 illegal. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan issued a new decree an hour after receiving the verdict from the administrative court.
Hagia Sophia was built in the 6th century on the orders of Emperor Justinian I, ruler of the Byzantine Empire. At that time it was the largest church in the world.
Then in 1453, when Istanbul was occupied by the Ottoman Caliphate, it was converted into a mosque by the conqueror Sultan Mahmud Fatih. After the dissolution of the Ottoman Caliphate, the mosque was turned into a museum in a decree signed by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in 1934. It is currently a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
